Our Leadership
Dan Kimball
Lead Staff, Mission & Theology
Dan was born and raised in New Jersey, in a suburban town near New York City.
He was not a Christian growing up, but while he was in college he began wondering whether or not the Bible was a mythical story and people simply became Christians because of their geographic and cultural context. He played drums in a rockabilly and punk band during college and after graduation, the band moved to London, England to pursue music. During the time in London, he was befriended by an 82 year old pastor who helped him understand the Bible and eventually he became a Christian. When the band ended, he moved to Israel for a season which enabled him to keep exploring the Bible and its historical roots before coming back to the States.
Dan served in youth and young adult ministry at Santa Cruz Bible Church before planting/starting Vintage Faith Church in 2004.
He has a doctorate (Doctor of Ministry) from George Fox University and a Masters degree from Western Seminary. In addition to his role at Vintage Faith Church, Dan is on the staff at Western Seminary serving as Vice President of Church Mission and Strategy and is Associate Professor of Leadership and Theology. He is the Director of The ReGeneration Project, whose mission is to see younger generations truly know what and why they believe, and where asking questions, studying and learning is encouraged as a wonderful part of what it means to follow Jesus.
Dan has written several books including: "How (Not) To Read The Bible: Making Sense of the Anti-Women, Anti-science, Pro-violence, Pro-slavery and Other Crazy-Sounding Parts of Scripture".
He is married to Becky, has two daughters and enjoys drums, rockabilly, punk, big band jazz, roots gospel and blues music like Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Reverend Gary Davis, Mahalia Jackson, Blind Willie Johnson, etc. He also has an affinity for Silver and Bronze age of comic books and art, Universal Monster films from the 1930's - 1950's, dinosaurs and bowling.
