Two thousand years ago, the Corinthian church was born into a sin-saturated city with a mission- to share the way of Jesus with those around them. While Jesus called his followers to be in their specific culture on this mission, he also called them to avoid being of the culture, influenced to the point where they would lose their effectiveness, their "saltiness." Unfortunately, the Corinthian church became so darkened by its culture that Paul had to directly address the issues that threatened to consume their hearts- issues of gossip, cliques, drunkenness, a flippant attitude toward sexuality and marriage, and many other temptations.

Two thousand years later, these same issues run rampant in our culture, and in reality, our churches. In SIN CITY: being the light of Jesus in a darkened culture, we hope to sort through the baggage of the Corinthian church, understand how we can avoid becoming consumed by a darkened culture and chose to be the light of Jesus to those around us.
